Organizing is not everyone’s cup of tea. It takes time and patience. When organizing, you can’t snap your fingers and wham it’s done.
1. Start in one room. What do you wish to accomplish? What would the end result look like?
2. Once you have selected the room, pick a closet or drawer. Have trash bags available and label “donate” or “discard”. Start removing everything, so you can evaluate what you have. Start putting donations and discards in the bag. Have a vacuum cleaner available so you can vacuum the drawer or closet.
3. Items to keep- consider categories. If clothing – put all winter items together and spring/summer items together. Consider putting all shirts/blouses together, pants/slacks, sweaters and so forth.
4. If your in a drawer- Could you use smaller container to hold items? For example, bedside night stand and small container to hold 3 pens, a small writing tablet, and other personal items.
5. When organizing, stay in that room until the whole room is complete. Assign yourself a couple of hours to accomplish your dresser drawers, or just the closet so the process is not so overwhelming.
6. Again, depending what you are organizing, consider: category, numbers, color, alphabetical. This is important in paper filing and working with photos.
