How teamwork turned chaos into success.

We worked with a couple, both busy executives, who were preparing to move closer to their grandchildren in Chicago. Their 6,600-square-foot home, spread across three levels, needed to be sorted, packed, and prepped for sale—all within a tight 10-day window. Why the rush? The home stager had only a two-day window to stage the house before it was listed.

From day one, we hit the ground running. We sorted and decluttered room by room, taking donations to local charities daily, delivering books to the library, coordinating with movers, auctioneers, and cleaners, and ensuring everything was organized and scheduled to perfection.

By the ninth day, we had packed up the entire house. But the real chaos came on the final day. The auction company arrived with a 10-person team to remove furniture, art, and even delicate Haviland china for sale. At the same time, three painters were busy touching up window trim throughout the house while the movers came to wrap and pad all the remaining furniture and artwork. To top it off, 11 inches of snow blanketed the ground, adding to the challenge.

Ideally, I wouldn’t schedule auctioneers, painters, and movers on the same day. But with careful planning and clear instructions, we managed to keep everyone on track. One team worked on one floor while another handled a different level. Despite the hectic scene, all the vendors were reliable and shared our commitment to quality work.

It was a whirlwind, but by the end of the day, everything was completed. The house was staged and ready for sale, and the couple could focus on their exciting next chapter.
