Small acts of kindness during life’s toughest transitions.
We were helping a couple relocate from Indianapolis to Boston. The wife was in hospice care, battling a severe respiratory illness, and the family was holding on to hope that she could make the journey.
One morning, as we arrived to pack, the husband mentioned, “She doesn’t have anything to wear to sleep.”
I asked the wife, “Do you prefer pajamas or nightgowns?”
“Nightgowns,” she said.
“Give me 45 minutes,” I told them both, and off I went.
I drove to the nearest Kohl’s, picked out two cozy nightgowns and a couple of pajama sets, and rushed back. The husband didn’t drive, so it was one of those little things we could do to help make their difficult transition just a bit easier.
The Takeaway:
Our job isn’t just about packing boxes and moving furniture. It’s about being there for people in their toughest moments and doing what we can to ease the burden—big or small.
