Tips to Manage and Organize a Closet

  1. If you don’t have room, then investigate some of the companies who build a custom shelving into your closet. Once you do this, you will realize it was the best investment you ever made.
  2. Invest in the micro suede type hangers. They take up less room and your clothes don’t fall off the hanger.
  3. Recycle wire hangers to your local cleaners.
  4. When you take clothes off the hanger, move the hanger to the left side of the rod so all loose hangers are together. Then when you go back to seek a hanger they are all together.
  5. Use shoe racks to display your shoes if there are no cubbies.
  6. For folded sweaters, workout clothes, and sweatshirts, put them on a shelf I love the plastic shelf dividers. You can purchase them on the internet. They are clear and just slide on the shelf. It holds your clothes in place and separates the different types of clothes.
  7. Hang up necklaces on the wall using a belt type hanger.
  8. Use over the door hook hangers to drape long scarves.
  9. Go through your clothes at least twice a year and take out clothes you haven’t worn in years. Include the clothes that you don’t like, that are too small or are too big and DONATE them.
  10. When storing out of season handbags, stuff with newspaper print to keep it’s shape. Again, the shelf dividers will keep the bags lined up.
  11. Organize your clothing either by color or sleeve length. Double hang bars are helpful. Hang slacks/pants on the lower rod and blazers, jackets, blouses and shirts on the upper rod.
  12. For long hanging items such as robes and longer dresses/jackets, have a separate area for those items.
