Are you thinking about moving or have you moved? Do you have a plan in your head of where all your furnishings will be placed at your new location? OOPS.
You get to the new location and one of these happens:
- The sofa will not go down the curved steps to the lower level.
- The chest of drawers, long dresser, two large night stands, and king size bed will not all fit into the master bedroom.
- The large cedar hope chest at the end of the bed is too large and provides no walking space in the bedroom.
- The kitchen cabinets are smaller and doesn’t provide space for 3 sets of dishes.
- The vertical filing cabinet and desk will not fit into the small bedroom you planned for an office.
The list goes on. All of these situations are real life happenings with clients over the years. When I suggest to produce a floor plan they respond NO – I’ve got it all figured out.
So what happens at the new location when the sofa planned for the lower level won’t go down the staircase? The sofa either gets sold or donated. The full bedroom set was split and a chest went into another room. The vertical file cabinet had to go in the garage and at a later date, we had to go through the cabinet to reduce the amount of files into a smaller cabinet.
Our 3-D floor plan can identify exactly what will fit, where and how. It allows the family to take to the new location, items that fit into the space and brings them love, joy and happiness. The items that don’t fit and don’t bring “joy” can be taken care of prior to the move.
If space is a challenge consider doing the following:
- Get rid of the large entertainment centers and TV stands. Mount the TV on the wall. Consider a swivel mount to view from several areas.
- Never hang TV’s over a wood burning fireplace.
- Consider selling large coffee tables or occasional tables and use C-shape type tables.
- Consider floor lamps rather than table lamps.
- Use tables as desks, which will give you the ability to slide a 2 drawer file cabinet below the table.
- Use your vertical space.
Floor planning is just one of our special services individuals can hire us for. At our first meeting, we measure items you want to take, that bring you love, joy and happiness. We need a floor plan of the new location. If you don’t have an existing floor plan, ask the realtor of the new location, to get you a plan of room measurements. Let them know you need the location of windows, doors, hallways, and outlets. If moving into a retirement community, so many of the communities have a floor plan. But remember, just looking at the new plan is not a solid idea of how your furnishings will fit.
