I recently worked with a client who was utilizing senior moving services to relocate from a 100-year-old, four-story Queen Anne-style home.
The challenge? Getting a 9-foot antique armoire from the second floor to the first. The stairway was out of the question due to the delicate, curved plaster walls. So, five movers strapped in, hoisting the massive piece over the banister and lowering it down to the first floor—without a single scratch on the armoire or the antique banister.
Mission accomplished, right? Not quite. When we arrived at the new house, we quickly discovered that the 9-foot armoire didn’t fit into the room it was destined for. After all that effort, it had to go into storage—with the same five guys moving the delicate antique once again.
The lesson here? We should always measure the new space ourselves before taking on a Herculean task like this. We’ll definitely be breaking out the tape measure first next time!
