Putting Away Holiday Decorations

Don’t wait to start taking down the decorations. Some folks like the red plastic bins for holiday décor. I found some of those very large and bulky. The medium clear bins with side clips are my favorite. Make sure to label the shorter side of the bin. Consider using cardboard ornament boxes which hold those delicate ornaments, to keep them separated and protected from being broken.

Tips:

  • Use cardboard paper towel holders for wrapping holiday lights and avoid the inevitable tangling.
  • Recycle all holiday cards. Otherwise it adds to the clutter.
  • For wreaths, consider the soft plastic wreath holders with a handle. Keep them clean and fresh.
  • Store artificial Christmas trees in their original box, if possible.
  • Use clear plastic containers for holiday décor and label the shorter side of the box so you know what you have.
  • Discard any broken or damaged décor.
  • Consider divided ornament containers for small to medium hanging ornaments. This prevent them from being broken.
  • Store holiday items in a cool space and out of the way. Some possible places to store them would be a top shelf in a storage room, attic, or basement.
