Packing Your Laundry/Utility Room

In most laundry rooms or utility rooms there is a lot of liquids. You might consider buying plastic totes. Do not buy too large of a tote, because it gets heavy.

If a product leaks, the plastic tote will make sure that it doesn’t leak through to a cardboard box.

Here are some tips to packing your laundry/utility room:

  • Pack all bottles and liquids vertically. Place products so they are sitting on their base and wrap them in newspaper.
  • Smaller bottles/jars should be put in plastic storage bags.
  • Discard outdated products or products that have less then a fourth of the product left in the bottle/jar.
  • DO NOT PACK ANY AEROSOLS, if moving out of state.
  • Pack irons in a box and wrap them in newspaper.
  • Ironing boards can go as they are, as long as they are folded. You may want to take off the cover and wash it. You can then put it in with the iron box.
  • Standing steamers usually can go as it stands. Remove any water from the tank. Tape any loose hoses together so no parts are missing. Movers should blanket wrap it.
  • Half used products like shoe polish and old silver/brass polish that you never use, can be discarded before moving.
  • Wash before packing any cleaning rags or microfiber cloths.
  • Save a few cleaning products out to clean your home after the movers leave, if you do not hire a professional cleaning service, which is highly recommended.
  • Label all contents of each box so that they are easy to find when you unpack.
