Moving Tip: Labeling Boxes

Complete Relocation Solutions Moving Tip:

Labeling boxes is important so you can judge your unpacking time schedule. Sounds obvious, huh? But most people write on a box with a sharpie “kitchen or bedroom”.

  1. When starting to pack, start in one room. Have Avery type labels or cut paper to tape on the right side of the box.
  2. When packing, put like items together in the box like: plates, saucers, drinking glasses, and list those items on the label under the words “kitchen”.
  3. Conduct this process through every room.
  4. Your tools needed: Avery type labels (at least 8” x 8”). I recommend sticky labels because they are easy to write on and peel off, onto the box. Clear packing tape, scissors, and of course newspaper for wrapping and boxes.
  5. Don’t skimp on newspaper, as it will prevent breakage. Pack items tight into the box so nothing moves.
  6. The appropriate box size and kind of box is critical. NEVER, EVER USE GROCERY STORE BOXES. Food is usually put into those boxes and stored on docks and in the back of a warehouse, until it is discarded by the grocery store. It has been known to contain BED BUGS and other creepy insects, like grocery store boxes. If you bring these boxes in your home, you could be bring in critters you don’t want and taking it to the new location.
  7. When your boxes are labeled by room, it is easier for movers to take to that area.
  8. If there are several bedroom boxes, label them: bedroom 1, 2, and master bedroom. Put a sign on bedroom 1 & 2 to let movers know.
  9. Moving can be stressful. Make it easier on yourself. Our team at Complete Relocation Solutions can assist you.
