Is it Time to Downsize to a Smaller Home?

Are you thinking of Downsizing Your Home in Indiana? With the flurry of people moving and homes selling so rapidly, downsizing is a national movement.

There are lots of reasons why seniors and others choose to downsize their home and belongings. Very often the reasons are tied to changes in family dynamics, finances and health-related issues. Sometimes it’s the realization that too much stuff has accumulated over the years and is no longer useful or wanted.

It is time to reduce the quantity and to allow for more breathing room in our homes and lives. In a study conducted out of the University of Kansas, over 1000 people ages 60+ were asked if they had more, less, or just the right amount of stuff. Over 60% stated ‘more’.

There are many benefits to downsizing from a larger to a smaller home, here’s just a few:
• Reduce or eliminate the physical responsibilities of home ownership
• Improve household finances/reduce expenses
• Improve home safety
• Eliminate clutter and focus of what matters to you most
• Be closer to family
• Reduce stress

Downsizing and moving to a smaller residence is an upward trend that won’t end anytime soon. Everyday, 10,000 people in America celebrate their 65th birthday, which is typically a time when thoughts of downsizing and retirement begin to come to fruition. According to information shared by Senior Lifestyle, people aged 50-64 say they plan to move within the next five years.
