- Shelving – If your kitchen needs updating, there are so many companies in the market that can custom build pull out shelving. You can add more space to your pantry or cabinets, so you can see items you have and you don’t re-buy the same item.
- Cookbooks: Since we can get so many recipes online today, how many cookbooks do you really need? Donate the excess to the local library and booksellers.
- A recipe library: I am old fashioned and like to physically view the recipes. You can take sheets or clippings and put them in a 3 ring binder and add tabs for chicken, beef, fish, vegetables, etc.
- Or you can scan the recipes and start a digital file as mentioned above. You can print it out when you need it or if you have a laptop or iPad, you can display the recipe on your kitchen counter top.
- Or you can write the recipes on index cards and keep a small file box of cards.
- As I run out of certain food items, I make a grocery list and magnet them to the side of my refrigerator. Go to the grocery store once a week. Plan your meals out, for example on Sunday, knowing what activities the kids might have or home for dinner so you don’t rush to fast food restaurants daily. Meals are thought out and you have the ingredients because you planned.
- Stick to your grocery list. As the cost of groceries today has increased, you will keep your checkout price in control of what you really need.
- If your family schedule is run to work, school and all of their activities, consider the newest time savers in appliances such as: slow cooker, air fryer-convection oven, rice cooker, and more. You can have healthy meals in no time.
- As you de-clutter your kitchen cabinets, toss plastic containers that are sticky or don’t have a lid or bottom. Glass containers with suction lids, sometimes can reserve tasty leftovers and they are easy to clean containers.
