Clearing Up the Kitchen Clutter

The past one and half years we were all home cooking a lot. Our kitchens might need some re-organizing.

Here are some tips to get your kitchen organized:

  • Go through cabinets and discard expired and unused items. Take items out of the cabinet so you can see what you have.
  • Clean the shelves/cabinets and drawers.
  • Put “like items together” categorized. Put all utensils near your work area, keep all pots/pans, knives and pot holders near the stove for easy reach and together.
  • If you have items that “use to work” don’t get rid of them.
  • Use any available wall space if you can. Hang spice racks. If you desire, hang pots and pans, lobster molds, and /or utensils.
  •  Use lazy susan systems in the cabinets for spices, canned goods or bottles.
  • Add space by adding a rack under the kitchen sink to hold cleaning products. Add a rack on the inside of the cabinet door to hold sponges, or other useful kitchen items.
  • Keep a collapsible step stool for high reaching places that you store items that are used on special occasions such as Christmas dishes, crystal and china. Store away from your work area of often used items.
  • Don’t store paper and plastic bags in between the refrigerator.  Recycle them.
  • Trash can: Use a strong, either metal or plastic, attractive bin with a lid, that has a foot pedal so you can remove trash with ease.
