Be Prepared with an Emergency Kit

With all the major storms we see thorough the country a preparedness kit should be ready to go.

Put the following items in plastic containers, in a safe lower level of your home or an area with no windows:

  • Roll of 30 gallon trash bags. These are for cleaning up debris or if you need them to wear as a rain coat.
  • Shoes (maybe an older pair with socks)– You will need these if there is broken glass.
  • If you have pets –canned or dried food and food bowls
  • Several gallons of water
  • Duct tape, flat and Philips screw driver, hammer and tarps
  • Thumb nail drive of all vital “life” documents- If you don’t have them, you can use a safe iCloud solution.
  • Cash of $200 that is in smaller bills
  • Canned foods (i.e. tuna fish,  soup, crackers and other family favorites), as well as a manual can and bottle opener
  • If you have infants – formula, diapers, shoes and clothes
  • Clothing: older pair of jeans, underwear, shirts and sweatshirts
  • Toiletries: toothbrush, toothpaste, possibly medications that you are taking, first aid kit with band aids, antibiotic ointment, aspirin, and if you are diabetic, the necessary items, and much more.
  • Small folding shovel
  • Toilet paper and paper towels
  • Flashlights with many batteries, but do not store batteries in the flashlight so it doesn’t wear down
  • Battery charger pack to charge your cell phone or other small appliances. Cell phone charger.
  • Battery operated radio for communication.
  • Several blankets and possibly sleeping bags
  • Everyday items you need to survive for a week or so.
