Atomic Habits

I am reading/listening (love audible books) a new book by James Clear called ATOMIC HABITS.

I just finished chapter one and what I learned since it is January and we might set resolutions or goals….if you are seeking to reach a goal you need to look at what systems do you have in place to achieve them?  If you increase your systems (or I call it “action steps”) by 1% on a regular basis, things will change over time in reaching your goals.

I am just as guilty. I admit placing my systems in place on a regular basis.

For example: If your seeking to create change to all your paper clutter, or recording receipts as a business expense so you can get reimbursed, or lose weight, or exercise on a regular basis, or read more books, etc., then you have to put the systems in place to make it happen. If you spend several hours organizing your paper clutter and then you go back to your old habit of just throwing the mail on the dining room table or your kitchen desk, then your back to square one. If you put action steps in place that when you bring in your mail, you put the junk mail in the recycle bin and bills to be paid, in the bills to be paid slot on your desk. Or however you organize bill paying.

Atomic (atom meaning – tiny or molecule size) is taking tiny action steps to achieve what you want. If you have tried changing some habits and a month later it failed, you need to look back. Did you have your systems in place or do you need to revise your systems? You personally didn’t fail, it was the systems.

Will share more as I continue the book.
