A Clutter-Free 2018 Part 1

Since the weather is crummy and we have to stay inside, it’s a great time to re-organize and provide peace and harmony in your living spaces.

 

This is a several part series. Since families spend so much time in the kitchen this is a good place to start:

 

  • Organize a charging station: select an area away from water on the counter not close to the cooking area. Get a decorative type cardboard box with a lid (Hobby Lobby, Container Store, Below Five stores) cut some holes in the back so wires can go to the outlet. Place your cell phones, tablets or any other devices hiding the wires all in the box.

  • Clear out plastic storage food containers that have no lids or bottoms. If yucky put in the recycling bin. Save all just lids or bottoms only have another purpose see below? Put all lids on the containers so you have it. Consider size you use most and get rid of the excess.

  • Go through all your kitchen cabinets and either recycle or donate items you never use. Go through your coffee mugs. Could you re-organize that area? Consider hanging hooks at the top shelf of the area to allow shorter or smaller cups to hang. Can also use white wire coated shelving (container store or Ikea) to place cups and saucers to fit in tight spaces. Prevents breakage as well.

  • Use “lids only” from those containers with no bottoms as dividers in deeper drawers for hand towels separating pot holders or other items. Or divide glasses, lids to pot and pans.

  • Under the sink storage: put dish gloves over the pipes of the sink. At your local hardware store get a curtain short tension rod (take measurements from inside of the cabinet wall to wall) and hang spray bottles from the sprayer handle on the rod. Use a larger plastic bin on the base of the cabinet to store dishwasher pods, dish washer liquid, etc.Prevents spillage.

  • Junk drawer – get the plastic flatware organizer for drawers and use in your junk drawer. Great for pens, scissors, spare keys, batteries, and office supplies.
